Interested in sitting the IBLCE exam in 2010?
Now is the time to start preparing for the 2010 IBLCE exam. All the information you need is under exam on the blue navigation bar at the top of this page. 2010 is the start of using the NEW Eligibility Pathways click here for more information. The exam is Monday 26 July 2010.
Did you know that there are changes to the 2010 exam?
Historically, the IBLCE certification exam has consisted of 200 multiple-choice items of which 75 were based on images. For the 2010 exam, the total number of exam items has been reduced to 175 multiple choice items. However, the number of image-based items has been increased from 75 to 100.
There are three reasons for these changes. First, IBLCE has determined that the exam could be reduced by 10-15% with no loss of validity, reliability, or rigor. The result is a more efficient, less fatiguing exam. Second, since image-based items are usually more clinical than text-only items, the exam will become more clinical. Third, since image-based items are usually shorter than text-based items, they are less dependent on text, and therefore translate into multiple languages more readily.
As the restructured exam will consist of fewer text-only items and fewer items overall, the amount of time given to take the exam will be shortened proportionately, from six hours to five hours. Although these modifications shorten the exam administration time, the scope of knowledge being tested will remain the same, as will the relative knowledge emphasis.

Are you due to Recertify in 2010?
The recertification packs have been sent out to all IBCLCs who are due to recertify by exam or CERPs in 2010. If your pack has not arrived please contact the IBLCE office.
Pictures Wanted
IBLCE are looking for professional quality digital photos to be used in the exam. The pictures must be accompanied by a signed consent (by photographer and photo subject or next of kin) and will be exclusively used by IBLCE. In return, CERPs will be awarded for photographs approved for use. If you would like more information please contact the IBLCE office.
Looking for lactation specific education?
Why not have a look at the Guide to Lactation Courses? This guide is not extensive but contains information about pre exam education that IBLCE is aware of . If you have any questions about the pre exam education please contact the education providers for details, all this information is within the guide. For the Guide to Lactation Course click here.
Looking for a lactation education support group?
There are many lactation education support support groups that gather to share their experiences and knowledge. They are targeted towards IBCLCs and Health Professionals who have an interest in breastfeeding and lactation. Groups that have applied for CERPs are listed on this web site. You can look under CERP Programs on the blue navigation bar or click here to see if there is one close to you.
